چکیده

When the atoms of a dimer remain most of the time very far apart, in so-called longrange molecular states, their mutual interaction is ruled by plain atomic properties. The highresolution spectroscopic study of some molecular excited states populated by photoassociation of cold atoms (photoassociative spectroscopy) gives a good illustration of this property. It provides accurate determinations of atomic radiative lifetimes, which are known to be sensitive tests for atomic calculations. A number of such analyses has been performed up to now, for all stable alkali atoms and for some other atomic species (Ca, Sr, Yb). A systematic review of these determinations is attempted here, with special attention paid to accuracy issues.

We report photoassociative spectroscopy of 88Sr2 in a magneto-optical trap operating on the 1S0 → 3P1 intercombination line at 689 nm. Photoassociative transitions are driven with a laser red-detuned by 600-2400MHz from the 1S0 → 1P1 atomic resonance at 461 nm. Photoassociation takes place at extremely large internuclear separation, and the photoassociative spectrum is strongly affected by rela...

Spectroscopic determination of the s-wave scattering lengths of 86Sr and 88Sr.

We report the use of photoassociative spectroscopy to determine the ground-state s-wave scattering lengths for the main bosonic isotopes of strontium, 86Sr and 88Sr. Photoassociative transitions are driven with a laser red detuned by up to 1400 GHz from the 1S0-1P1 atomic resonance at 461 nm. A minimum in the transition amplitude for 86Sr at -494 +/- 5 GHz allows us to determine the scattering ...

Determination of lifetimes of 6 PJ levels and ground - state polarizability of Cs from the van der Waals coefficient C

A method for determination of atomic lifetimes from the value of dispersion coefficient C6 of molecular potentials correlating to two ground-state atoms is proposed. The method is illustrated with atomic Cs using C6 deduced from high-resolution Feshbach spectroscopy. The following lifetimes are determined: t6P1/2534.80 60.07 ns and t6P3/2530.3960.06 ns. The underlying electric-dipole matrix ele...

The FERRUM Project : Experimental and theoretical transition rates of forbidden [ Sc ] lines and radiative lifetimes of metastable Sc levels ⋆

Context. In many plasmas, long-lived metastable atomic levels are depopulated by collisions (quenched) before they decay radiatively. In low-density regions, however, the low collision rate may allow depopulation by electric dipole (E1) forbidden radiative transitions, so-called forbidden lines (mainly M1 and E2 transitions) . If the atomic transition data is known, these lines are indicators o...
